1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small file a website stores in the browser of the person visiting it. It remembers information between pages or between visits: from keeping a session open to counting how many people have been on a page. Alongside cookies there are equivalent technologies —local storage, pixels, device fingerprinting— and this policy covers all of them.
Depending on who sets them, cookies are first-party (set by the site owner) or third-party. Depending on what they are for, they are usually classed as technical or necessary, preference, analytics or measurement, and advertising or behavioural.
2. Which cookies this site uses
Today this site sets no cookie that requires consent. There is no analytics, no audience measurement, no advertising, and no social buttons that follow the visitor. Fonts are served from this domain, so the page does not call third-party servers when it loads.
Technical cookies and local storage
Technical cookies are the ones the page needs in order to work and to stay secure. They are exempt from prior consent under article 22.2 of the LSSI-CE, though they still have to be disclosed. This site sets no cookies. The only thing it keeps in your browser is this:
- nm-theme — First-party, in the browser’s local storage. It remembers whether you chose the light theme, the dark one or your system’s, and it is only saved if you change the theme. It lasts until you clear it from your browser and is never sent to a server.
If the site ever needs a technical cookie, it will be added to this list before it is set.
Analytics, personalisation and advertising cookies
None. Visitor behaviour is not measured and no information is shared with advertising platforms. If an analytics or marketing tool is added later, prior consent will be asked through a notice that lets you accept, reject and configure them with the same ease, and this policy will be updated before that tool is installed.
3. Third-party cookies
This site links to external profiles and pages (for example LinkedIn). Following those links leaves the site, and the cookie policies of each destination then apply, which the owner does not control. Outbound links do not set cookies by themselves until they are clicked.
4. Legal basis and consent
Technical cookies rely on article 22.2 of the LSSI-CE and on the controller’s legitimate interest in the site working and staying secure. Any other category requires the user’s prior, specific and informed consent, which can be withdrawn at any time as easily as it was given. While those categories do not exist, no cookie banner is shown, because asking for consent that is not needed is also bad practice.
5. How to see, turn off or delete cookies
Every browser lets you inspect stored cookies, delete them and block those of one site or of all sites. The option is usually in settings, under privacy and security:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and site data.
- Safari: Settings or Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions.
Most browsers also offer a private browsing mode, which clears cookies when the window closes. Menu names change with each version; the browser’s own help always has the current path.
6. What happens if you turn them off
Because this site is informational and does not require a sign-in, blocking cookies does not stop you reading it or sending the contact form. If you clear local storage, the only change is that the site goes back to your system’s theme.
7. Changes to this policy
This policy will be reviewed whenever the cookies in use change and, at a minimum, when a new tool is added to the site. Questions about this document can be sent to mayda.morales@north-meridian.dev. How personal data is processed is explained in the privacy policy.
